What Is Family Support?

Family Support refers to the help, guidance, and resources available to families to strengthen their relationships, improve well-being, and overcome challenges. It’s about ensuring every family has the tools and encouragement they need to thrive — emotionally, socially, and practically.

Family support can come in many forms, including:

  • Emotional Support: Listening, understanding, and offering encouragement during difficult times.
  • Practical Help: Assistance with linking in with homeless service, domestic abuses services, low-cost counselling, free mediation services, and children services such as low-cost play therapy, and Rainbows (Bereavement and Separation for children).
  • Educational Resources: Parenting classes, workshops, and information about child development or communication skills.
  • Community Connections: Linking families to local services, peer groups, and social activities that build a sense of belonging.

Ultimately, family support strengthens the entire family unit helping parents, caregivers, and children feel more confident, connected, and cared for.
