About the Gort Resource Centre
“For children, parents and the broader community of Gort and surrounding areas to be included, supported and treated equally”
Our Vision Statement
Our Story
Since opening our doors in 2003, the Gort Resource Centre has been a cornerstone of community support and development. After relocating to Church Street in 2004, we have continually strived to uplift the standard of living for the people of Gort and surrounding areas.
Our mission is to provide confidential, non-judgmental services that cater to the diverse needs of families and individuals. Managed by a dedicated team of local volunteers employing three staff, our centre is committed to offering a wide range of supports & services tailored to our community’s needs.
Tígh Sayre, Kinvara
Tígh Satre in Kinvara is an outreach of Gort Family Resource Centre providing a warm and welcoming place for use by the whole community. The ground floor space of this beautiful old building has been made available through the generosity of the family of the late Sayre Shallow, a former well-known resident of Kinvara, in accordance with her wishes.
Tígh Sayre is open from Monday to Friday, 10 am to 2 pm, and our volunteers offer a wide range of support and services for the community of Kinvara and beyond. Free computer and internet access, low-cost printing and photocopying, scanning and laminating, referrals to local support services, a meeting room for community groups and activities, and support with form-filling.

Our Community
Collaboration is Key
Collaboration is a cornerstone of the work of our Project which allows for shared expertise and promotes best practice.
We are actively engaged with a range of statutory and non-statutory organisations and groups at Local, Regional and National Levels.
We have two Regional Networks that we participate namely our LGBTQ+ Network and our Community Response to Domestic Abuse Western Regional Network. To have frontline services, local partnership companies and national organisations become members of our Networks been wholly beneficial in informing and guiding our work.
Family Resource Centres
Family Resource Centres (FRCs) are located within a community-based family support model, which is at the heart of the Programme. Community development’s centrality in informing the approaches, values, and methods underpinning FRCs’ work is a defining feature of their contribution. A further defining characteristic of FRCs is that they are managed by local voluntary management committees, which are critical in facilitating meaningful community participation and ensuring local knowledge and accountability.1 FRCs have an open-door policy.
A central feature of the FRC programme is the involvement of local people in identifying needs and developing needs-led responses. FRCs are participative and empowering organisations that support families while building the capacity and leadership of local communities. FRCs provide a range of universal and targeted services and development opportunities that address the needs of families.
